These loans are worth mentioning for providing quick financial support to borrowers. Military loans are offered by lenders at easy loan terms and are widely available. These loans can be used for anything you like such as:

Education for your child

Improvement of home

Purchasing a car

Wedding purpose

Debt consolidation etc.

Military loans give you a low rate of interest. If you are a in the US Army, Navy, or any other branch, you can land great personal loans at lower interest rates that can make your life easier. However, the very service to your country that makes you eligible for such great loans also makes you vulnerable to bad loans as well.

The general US population is taken for almost three and a half billion dollars per year in extra fees by payday lending companies. Since these companies have put together a business model made to reap rewards from repeat borrowers, they can be classified as predatory. One of their favorite targets are members of the US armed forces in the form of what they will call US military loans or sometimes Armed Forces loans.

These companies of found that members of the USAF, Marines, or even the National Guard are ideal as targets for these types of loans. You, as a government employee, have a steady income from the US government and you have a very little to spare in most cases. Then, deployment time comes, and your family needs money for extra expenses. That is where these companies step in. They offer your family a quick cash payday loan at a “military loan” rate. The truth is, though, that they are taking very little off the rate and are only offering you and your family a loan that will force you to borrow again down the road to cover the original loan. These places will happily “roll over” your loan for a fee each week. Eventually you are in a debt trap

The other thing that makes military personnel vulnerable to these payday loan traps is that they are often young and inexperienced with money. Then, as debt builds up, the indebted military personnel are embarrassed to admit their problem to their CO and end up continuing to borrow and pay only on interest and roll over fees. They are fearful for good reason, since failing to repay a loan violates a number of military codes that can result in jail time and or court marshal.

So what is the answer? Many of these fake military loan companies are being kept away from military bases. Additionally, they are being forbidden from using names that imply affiliation with the military, which is a common practice with these military loan payday check cashing stores.

In the end, it is up to you to beware. It is a good rule of thumb to simply avoid any payday loan store, but any that offer special military loans are likely just targeting you or your base for a cycle of debt you want no part of. If you have financial problems, many bases are even offering financial advice to young recruits. So ask for help, but avoid the trap that is payday military loans.

Personal military loans are available at reasonable interest rates if you know your facts. Army Loans or Air Force Loans are a great way for military members to get their needs met.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Joseph_Barker
http://EzineArticles.com/?Military-Loans:-Dont-Get-Taken&id=210962

Why I Love My PDA

As kids we used to dream about the future and wonder how much like "The Jetsons" our lives would be. Would there be flying cars and entire meals encompassed in tiny capsules? Would all sidewalks be conveyor belts, and would be talking with loved ones through video phones? Well, we aren't exactly living like George, Jane, Judy and Elroy, but we are gaining some ground with a few technological wonders. My favorite is the personal digital assistant, or PDA.

Why do I love my PDA? It isn't difficult to come up with reasons, though I'll spare readers the time to wade through an entire novel and focus on the four main points that emphasize my gratitude for this invention and the ease it brings to my busy life.

1) Convenience - Decades ago computers used to take up entire rooms. The PDA, by comparison, is no bigger than the palm of my hand and goes with me everywhere. It is a personal date book, address book, memo pad, shopping list, and music player. Having it has helped me eliminate the clutter in my handbag. Now, when I need to take down any important information, I need only take out this hand held computer and jot notes with the stylus.

2) Wireless capability - As the world shrinks with Internet connectivity bringing people closer together, I can use my PDA to stay in touch with current events and family and friends. With its wireless capability I can step into any cafe or shop with a free wireless hub and check e-mail and download news alerts. It's like having a newspaper that never expires.

3) Usability and storage - Despite the size of the hand held device, there is plenty of memory to store important documents and phone numbers, a few favorite songs in MP3 format, and text messages from friends. What doesn't stay stored may be backed up into a portable, reusable drive, plus compatibility with my computer allows me to transfer files with ease.

4) Reading books - Used to be I would carry a bag full of books on vacation. Having a PDA, however, eliminates the need for extra luggage. With many bestsellers in eBook format and public domain eBooks available on the Web for free, I can download as many as ten books into my PDA and read to my heart's content. I can also adjust the font size on the screen to suit my eyes and use the back light feature for night reading - I can't do that with a book!

For convenience and usability, my PDA is an absolutely necessity. For work and entertainment, I don't need to look further than the one device that does everything.

Which Scanner is Right For You?

With the push of a button, a good color scanner can copy any type of document, report, or photograph you need transferred to the Internet or computer file. With the many different brands and types of scanners on the market, however, can you be certain which one you need for work or home use?

It may seem like a daunting task, but determining the type of scanner best suited for your work is not really difficult to do. A quick survey of the two major types of scanners can help you decide what computer hardware needs to be added to your home or work office before you spend too much money on something you don't need.

Here is a brief look at scanners:

The Sheet-Fed Scanner This scanner is reminiscent of the mimeograph of old, where a paper document is threaded into a rolling mechanism. As the paper moves through the scanner the information is collected and presented in its original format on your screen. Depending upon the accompanying software, the material may be presented in a word processing document or image viewer. The sheet-fed scanner is ideal for the person who doesn't have a lot of desk space to spare - these scanners are compact and easily portable. For people who have a need to scan book pages and magazines, however, this device will not work. Depending upon the brand, not all of these scanners may accept photographs.

Flatbed Scanners These scanners look remarkably like a copying machine with the similar glass surface and scanning mechanisms. Instead of producing a paper replica of the document, the material is transferred to the computer, into a word processing program or image editor. Flat bed scanners are perhaps the most versatile, as they can scan book pages, magazines, and photographs with ease. The only caveat to the flatbed scanner is size. These devices are large and bulky and do take up a lot of desk space. If you don't have much to spare, consider carefully the decision to buy one.

Usability, size and price are the main determining factors when buying a scanner. Consider your needs for scanner, and the space you can offer one, before you buy. A scanner can be a good investment for a business, just make sure it is the right one.

Nintendo Wii, a Real Revolution?

By John Gibb
After the release of the Xbox and PS2, in the highly competitive world of video gaming consoles it appears like Nintendo was pushed out of the game. Now, with the brand new Xbox 360 and the soon to be released PS3, Nintendo needs to definitely do something cool in order to keep up with the 2 giants that are leading the game so far. Nintendo's answer to this situation is the in-development-stages Nintendo Wii. Hopefully, this will be a console capable of competing with Xbox 360 and PS3. Will Wii really manage to give Nintendo a breath of relief? Well, only time can show.

Nintedo Wii has been in development for quite some time now. The initial name of the project was Nintendo Revolution but later on, the guys at Nintendo decided to change it's name to "Wii" (it's pronounced we). The console itself is a black (it can also come in other colors, that's a common practice by Nintendo), sleek, rectangular box with a blue, beautiful, LED illuminated slot-receiver. The exterior follows the concept 'keep it simple and effective' and it's completely different from the flashy Xbox 360.

Leaving the eye-candy aside now, let's talk about the actual features of the Wii console. First of all, Nintendo promised that the Wii will bring a whole new gaming experience upon it's arrival. Part of the implementation of this plan is a small controller that comes along with Wii. Although it appears just like a simple TV controller, it contains motion sensors; this feature will be utilized in various gameplay aspects. For example, Titles such as Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel take advantage of the new controller technology in order to provide the player with an effective way to aim.

Regarding interior hardware aspects of the Wii, what we know by the moment is that it will be equipped with an IBM CPU, an ATI graphics card and a RAM memory of 512MB. Of course, it features wireless controllers, 2 USB ports and a built in antennae for WiFi internet access. Saddly for those who consider it a must, Wii will not support HD output but it still has the potential to look pretty good on a HDTV due to its wide screen friendly mode and the 480p progressive scan.

The last thing to add is that Wii features an amazing backwards compatibility feature. You can play literally any game that Nintendo has ever produced. Yes, even retro games! Finally, another good thing about the Wii is that it will come at a very affordable price; according to Nintendo it is going to cost something less than 250$!

John Gibb is the owner of gamesconsoles facts

For more information on games consoles check out http://www.gamesconsole-guides.info

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Gibb
http://EzineArticles.com/?Nintendo-Wii,-a-Real-Revolution?&id=294046

Nintendo Wii at the Computer Connection

Just in time for Valentine's Day, give your sweetheart or your family the gift of exciting entertainment with the Nintendo Wii gaming system.

For as little as $35 a month, you can take home the Nintendo Wii and start playing all of your favorite games. Back in the seventies, it was quite common to see people bobbing their heads to a beat only they could hear, distracted from the rest of the world. One can imagine how a young person today would find the image ridiculous, as he straps on his MP3 player and goes about his day in the same manner.

From bulky handheld radios, to Walkmans, to iPods, the ability to listen to music on the go has evolved. Meanwhile the devices with which we listen have arguably devolved in size! Amazing to see how a tiny music player barely covers the palm of a baby's hand, yet can hold hundreds of recorded songs! Yet, how do you know which music player is right for you?

The technology of MP3, or streamed MPEG audio, had definitely made life easier for music lovers who want to take their tunes anywhere they wish. Where the traditional portable tape player limited a person to one tape of up to twenty songs, an MP3 player allows the user to listen to as many as a thousand without having to go home for more music! Whether used for jogging, to break the boredom of housework, or to keep the pace going at work, the MP3 player has fast become a necessity. Everywhere you go, you see tiny ear buds connected to thin wires.

Here are some things to consider if you are in the market for an MP3 player:

Price versus Usability

How much are you willing to spend on such a device? Depending upon its capacity and capabilities, players can run from just under a hundred dollars to as much as five hundred. If you consider yourself a nominal user, taking a player out on a daily, hour-long run, you might not need video capability or the need to log in thousands of songs when only a hundred or so would do.

The frequent traveler, on the other hand, may appreciate the MP3 player with built in video options for watching recorded shows, or listening to favorite podcasts, while flying or on a train. Determine your needs and the reality of your use for an MP3 player, and buy accordingly.

Ease and Compatibility

What kind of computer do you own? Is the player compatible with your current platform? It has become a household necessity. Where television and radio once served as the primary resources for news and entertainment, computers with Internet access are fast taking the number one spot on the list of top communication devices. They are vital to communities large and small, a must for every family.

That said, it goes without saying that no one computer can satisfy the needs of every family. When planning to purchase a computer system, one should consider a number of factors before handing over a credit card to a sales clerk. What do you need the computer to do? How fast does it need to run? What peripherals do you need in order for it to work to satisfy you?

Moreover, are you better off with a laptop computer, or a desktop system?

It may not seem like a decision worth consideration, but the fact is: how your computer system comes packaged can determine its usefulness for you and your family. As with buying a car, a television set, or any large appliance, you want to be sure the computer you purchase is the right one. Your computer must have the capabilities and memory to suit your needs, it is a purchase you should never regret making.

Before you make a decision, take note of a few lifestyle factors and determine from there what you need to buy to serve you and your family in the best way possible.

Home Life

Do you work from home? Do you have children who might benefit from using a computer for learning? Do you prefer to do your banking and other financial transactions online? Does your job or class load require you to create documents or presentations? Would you rely upon a computer heavily for entertainment? Does your household need a great amount of organization and filing?

Work Life

Do you travel often for your job? Are you able to afford an Internet connection for your home? Are you required to have documents and presentations handy at short notice? Do you find you would use a computer more for work than for leisure?

For families in which everybody would benefit from a computer, a desktop system may be the right decision. A desktop arrangement can offer a large monitor, whether traditional or flat screen, so all ages can see graphics and documents clearly. All of your household finances and files, genealogical information, and educational games may be stored within for simple access. A strong Internet connection, too, provides convenience for young students doing research.

For people married to work, a laptop may be a good investment. If you travel often for work, a laptop's portability is its greatest asset. Take all of your work documents and presentations with you and distribute through the Internet as needed. Take advantage of cafes and public areas with free wireless access and do your job anywhere. Special messaging software with voice functions also allow you to use your laptop as a phone, so you are always in touch.

Usability, convenience, and luxury are three factors involved in your decision to buy a computer. Price may ultimately be the tiebreaker, but always remember to take every aspect of work and play into consideration before making a purchase.

The Christmas Budget - Spending Plan

Christmas is considered the most important holiday of all. It brings joy to people. But it also means these people will spend more money on gifts whether it is for themselves or their loved ones. People tend to spend more than they can. Shopping becomes uncontrollable and debts appear beyond repair. In order to avoid having new debt burdens after the holidays, try to follow these next steps and enjoy a New Year free of debt.

Set a Budget During the Holidays

- First of all, before you start spending your money on anything, set a spending plan in order to keep track of the money to be spent. Prioritize your shopping. On the top of the list there should be things that you will need for Christmas, such as food. Calculate the amount that you will need to spend on those important items. After that, you will be able to foresee if you will have money for other purchases.

- As a second important point, you will have to do a little math in order to estimate how much your income will be for this month, and how much you have saved for this particular season. Then, you have to make a list with the essentials you will need to get. Try to maintain your purchases within your budget limits in order to keep control on the money spent and avoid any debt surprises in January.

- Always keep a record on the money spent, taking into account all the expenses. Remember that small expenses can add up turning into a big amount. Therefore, the important thing to do is keep records of all your expenses in order to know exactly how much you spent. This way, you will have more control of your finances, and you will star a new year with no debts.

Compare prices, products, stores and brands. Be a smart consumer and keep track of products on sale at the different outlets. Outlets can help you save a lot of money which you can spend on other items. Last-minute purchases can mess up your Christmas budget because you tend to buy anything you find, and it is always more expensive

Following the aforementioned steps can help you save some money, and more importantly, it will help you avoid debt in the new year at all cost.

Planning a budget can help you learn a lot about yourself. For instance, people spend more money than they earn, and they do not even realize it. A budget helps you discover where your money is going and where you can make minimize certain expenses in order to save some more money.

Check these links to learn more:

LINK

LINK2

Nancy Smith is a contributing writer to http://www.bill-consolidation-and-debt-negotiation.com and is currently writing some special articles to guide business on how to manage debt and avoid bankruptcy. While this may seem like a bad thing, it actually puts you in a great position to build good credit.

Most people who just join the military are in an enviable position of having very little or no established credit. While this may seem like a bad thing, it actually puts you in a great position to build good credit. It is much easier to build good credit then it is to repair it so now is the time to thoughtfully establish some and maintain it to improve your credit rating. The military offers its service people an advantage. Lenders like the fact that you will have a guaranteed paycheck for four years and are more apt to extend credit for the first time.

The first thing you should do is receive a copy of your credit report. There are three primary credit bureaus, Experian, Trans Union and Equifax that supply credit reports. It is advisable to get a credit report from all three. You will then need to analyze your report to see if it is accurate and what it says. If there are items on there that you are unaware of, now is the time to clear it up. With identity theft so prevalent today, even though you may not have credit, someone else may have gotten something in your name.

Then, you will need to open a bank account. Navy Federal Credit Union (http://www.navymoney.com), NFCU is a good place to start for United States Navy service members. It is advisable to open both a checking and savings account. This will show stability and allow you to pay bills and function much easier. Deposit your paycheck into your checking account and take a portion every pay period to put into your savings account. Do not touch the money in your savings account. Instead, let it grow and accumulate interest. Keep an eye on your checking account and do not let the balance get too low. Always balance it and make sure you do not bounce any checks.

You will want to apply for a revolving charge account. Types of credit that are good to get in the beginning are major credit cards like MasterCard, Visa or Discover. These will allow a lower interest rate and will help start you on a history of good payments. The trick is to not charge more than you can afford to pay off completely. Use the card for small purchases and pay the majority off each month. However, do not always pay it off entirely. You want to establish a good credit rating so be sure you do not pay late. Not only will it increase your interest rate and add finance charges but you will reduce your credit score.

Establishing good credit takes discipline, something you should be familiar with in the military. Taking the time to build it now will hold you in good stead throughout the years and will enable you to get bigger loans when you need it. Eventually you will need a car and a home. If you have good credit you will be able to get approved for a loan more easily and get lower interest rates.

About Author
NavyMoney.com gives those who are in the United States Navy alternatives to http://www.navymoney.com Navy Federal Credit Union for building credit.

Choosing the Computer System That is Right For You

These days, it seems a computer is almost as necessary an appliance as a refrigerator. Once thought of as a luxury or a device solely reserved for business, the home computer performs many necessary functions that keep daily life running smoothly. Paired with an Internet connection, the home computer closes the gaps of communication between family and friends, helps keep finances balanced, and serves as an invaluable tool for organization and education. It isn't just for video games anymore!
That said, it is important for a family on a budget to choose the computer system that is best for them. When shopping for computer systems, one should not get carried away by unnecessary bells and whistles if they are not needed to perform the business and personal computing tasks that need to be done. So when you are out shopping for your next, or first, computer, take the following into consideration before you commit to a purchase:

Functionality – What do you need a computer to do for you? Do you have a student in the home who needs to compose term papers and reports? Do you wish to keep track of family finances and pay bills via the Internet? Do you operate a home-based business that requires a computer to maintain long-distance communications with clients?

Depending upon your business, the platform you use can make a difference. In education, for example, teachers and administration lean toward one particular platform over another due to the increased functionality for making graphs and flowcharts, presentations for overhead projection, and spreadsheets for tracking grades. For the graphic artist, it is important to choose a platform compatible to advanced graphics software. A writer may need a specific platform that can easily transfer documents to be read by editors, agents and publishers. Whatever your profession, it is always a good idea to consult with others in the field to determine the platform best suited for your needs.

Speed – How often do you use a computer? Do you fire it up once a month when the bills are due, or maybe a few times a week to check e-mail from family and friends? Are you a die hard user, and literally have to leave it on all the time for business or other projects. Do you require a powerful Internet connection to transfer large files to and from clients, or is a standard dial-up account suitable for what you do? Some may argue faster is better, particularly if you are a heavy Web user who prefers to download sites without constantly checking your watch. However, high-speed modems and tons of memory may not be necessary for all computer owners. If you fall into the category of occasional user, you likely don't need the expense of a mass connection package if you only surf the Web on occasion. Determine how much time in the week is spent on the computer and on the Internet as opposed to your other priorities and work out a connection and memory package from there. Don't feel you have to keep up with the Joneses as far as speed is concerned. Sometimes it is best to take things slowly.

Software – What kind of software do you need? Do you need a word processor for everyday correspondence and reports? Do you need graphics software to edit photos and images? Do you need accounting software for bookkeeping purposes? Some platforms and speeds work well with some software programs, so if you have a specific task in mind for your computer you should consult with a knowledgeable sales representative to help you choose the right system for you. Don't allow anybody to sell you what you don't need. If you have no use for an advanced program like Photoshop but would like a program to sort photos from a digital camera, don't let anybody convince you to spend the extra money. Consequently, if you need a program like Word but don't need other office peripherals, shop for the best suited package for you. If you are an educator or student, look for discounted or specialized software for your needs.

Shop smartly when you prepare to take home a computer. Learn what each system does and how well it runs programs. If you have something specific in mind, ask a sales clerk and weigh all payment options before making a decision. A computer is a good investment for any family to have, so make it a good one.

Beware Credit Card Thieves on the Horizon!

by Stephen Morgan

No this is not a seasonal warning about thieves and pick-pockets (well certainly not the usual variety) but rather a heads up about the annual onslaught of direct mail from those glorious companies who have our welfare dearest to their hearts, the Worlds Credit Card Companies!

Bless them they have had a hard time this year with the annual revenue per card halving in the past five years, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers in their recent report “Precious Plastic 2007”. All because by and large we have managed to get to grips with the ways they have been robbing the living daylights out of us for the past god knows how long!

Apparently their problems are largely threefold (he says trying hard not to laugh) and they are roughly the following:

1. The number of people who are euphemistically known as “Rate Tarts” that is to say those who rather smartly are able to take advantage of being able to move their debts from one card to another taking advantage of interest free and low interest deal has grown. The downside of this type of action is that you have to be very careful and time it to perfection to make this sort of activity work for you.

I know of at least one major Credit Card Company that establishes its major model of Customer acquisition through offering ridiculous deals at the start and working on the principle that some poor unfortunates will get it wrong and end up paying for the rest. I mean where else would you get away with going from zero to 29.9% in less than a Month. In the old days it was called usury!

2. Apparently bad debts are on the rise again? Well that one took a lot to spot! Wow, never saw that one coming!

If you take your little bits of plastic and offer them to kids who have no idea of ever having had to budget in their lives before OR (and this is more of a heinous crime) prey upon those who are already in financial difficulties then you should hardly complain when you occasionally get it wrong!

It would appear the effects of never having had it so good has been to cause more than the usual number of households to overstretch themselves on the old household front and now are struggling to make their payments

3. Lastly, it would appear that (certainly in the UK and I am sure in the US too) that the Authorities have got wise to what is going on and at last decided to get heavy with them over their laughably ridiculous penalties and fines for late payments.

I know of another poor individual who got close to their credit limit, an unexpected payment came in (despite that fact that the electronic control system should not have authorised it), took them over their limit and then got hit with a double jeopardy of late payment / over the limit fees leading to more…..you’ve guessed it more over limit fees and then the whole thing compounded nicely downhill from there on in!

The bottom line to all of this is that is that in the UK for their 32 million Card holders the Credit Card Companies are looking to recoup upwards of £1 billion in potential lost revenues!

Watch out, Bandits about!

Stephen Morgan is an independent journalist writing on a number of issues, the majority concerning adverse financial situations and the resultant stress that they create. He is the principle Editor for Personal Bankruptcy and also has just launched the associate site Living with High Blood Pressure. Whether you want it so that you don't have to carry cash with you, or you are a businessperson who is looking to have an accurate record of all business-related expenses, there will usually be one card that is a little more beneficial to your situation than others. Here are some things to look for to help you get that perfect credit card.

Determine Your Primary Use of The Credit Card

Probably the most important question to ask up front is what do you want to use your credit card for most? This should largely determine what kind of card you need to look for. For instance, if you are in business for yourself, or if you travel a lot for your business, then there are a couple of cards that will really help you save some money.

If you fly a lot, then go for a credit card that will give you a lot of air miles up front, and will also give you a lot of options that you can use the points for. It should also have an option of allowing your points to be used for hotel rooms and possibly car rentals.

If you drive a lot, then go for a gas card that gives you rebates on your gasoline, and make sure your points can go toward car rentals, or towards a new car. There are also business credit cards that will not only help you with these things, but will also allow you to use your points toward the purchase of new office equipment and other similar things that every business needs.

On the other hand, if you are a student, or a mother just wanting to use it for more simple expenditures, like gas, food, prescriptions, and some pizza money, then you just want a regular card that will reward you for these type of expenditures. On these items, you can expect to get up to 3% rebate, possibly more on other types of purchases. Many cards may only give you 1% of a rebate, but by looking around, you can get the 3%.

Needs For Debt Consolidation?

If you have found yourself getting in debt pretty deeply from credit cards, then you can use a new credit card to actually help you eliminate some of the debt. Here's how. Get a 0% APR interest credit card that will give you the opportunity to have balances transferred to it - but make sure that there is not any balance transfer fees.

Many credit cards have these fees, but there are just as many that do not have them. Why pay for it when you can get this option for free from someone else? You also want to be sure that the introductory benefits last for at least one year; some only last for three months. Then, if you still have debt on this card, be sure to get yourself another card before the year expires, and give yourself another year of 0% APR interest on it.

Getting The Most Benefits From Your Credit Card

No matter what benefits you have attached to your credit card, you will not enjoy much of them unless you do two things. The first thing that you need to be sure to do is to pay your credit card bills on time so that you do not pay the monthly late fees. Being late even once with some credit card companies is all the excuse they need to charge you the full amount of interest - from that point on. A second thing is to pay off the bill in full each month, in order to avoid the interest charges, after the introductory period expires.

Establish A Good Credit Rating

With something as simple as too much debt owed on a credit card, many people have wiped out the possibility of buying some of the bigger items they may really want - like that nice house that they have dreamed of for so long. The best credit card will also help you to build up, maintain, or repair your credit rating, too; if it is used wisely.
Article Source: http://www.articleaddition.com

Joe Kenny writes for the Credit Card Guide, offering views on UK credit cards, visit them today for some great 0% balance transfer offers and start clearing credit card debt today.

Establish Good Credit for a Good Financial Future, Pt. Low rates available! No payments for a year! It seems like good news, and it's tempting to want to fill out every form you get, thinking you can build up good credit for the future. However, it's best not to get too carried away, lest you find yourself taking on more than you can handle.

Is it possible to establish good credit early on in life without burrowing into debt? Of course, all it takes is a bit of research and self-control. Given the responsibility of handling one's own money need not be too daunting a task, so long as you realize the necessity of keeping a good credit standing. By showing that you are able to keep good credit now will help you in the long run when it's time to buy a car or a home, or large luxury items like a boat or motorcycle. Some companies are quite fond of offering financing plans to consumers, but in the end they want to be assured that you can eventually make all the payments. Here are a few tips for establishing a good credit base for a successful financial future.

In Part I of this two-part article, we looked at ways one can establish good credit. By maintaining a healthy financial base with a job, bank account and paying bills on time, one can build an excellent credit rating for future purchases. Careful investments with people you trust can also be beneficial, especially if you do business with people with established credit. Here are some other ways to help nuture a strong credit score.

Establish good credit with specialty cards

Before you dive into that sack of mail to collect the many credit cards approved for you, consider starting small by applying for cards for practical purposes. Obtaining a credit card for a major department store or gas station is a good way to establish credit while curbing bad spending habits. Some cards may require you to pay the monthly balance in full when it is due, so this way you have the opportunity to prove that you can be a controlled spender and be responsible for monthly bills.

Secured Credit Cards

One way people get into trouble with credit cards is overspending. Limits may be set, but it is possible to run too many charges on a card so that the monthly minimum payment becomes too much to handle. Add that you continue to spend as you pay off, and the balance will never decrease!

A secured credit cards is similar to a debit card, in that a set amount of cash from your bank account is placed in your spending queue. As you buy things, the money is deducted. All you have to do is keep track. Proper use of a secured credit card can train you well for a regular credit card with a larger spending limit. Don't think because you have a card with a ten thousand dollar limit, it means you have to spend the money. Eventually, you will have to pay it back!

Controlled spending, wise investments, practice with limited store credit cards and responsible money management all contribute to building good credit. If you can prove your fiscal maturity now, it will be easier in the future when it comes time to make a big purchase.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.getapcloan.com/2006/11/establish-good-credit-for-good_07.html' title='Establish Good Credit for a Good Financial Future, Pt.

Maintaining a healthy base with a job, bank account and bills

With most financing operations, sometimes all you need is a paystub to get your foot in the door. Therefore, it's important to maintain some longevity in the workplace and not bounce from job to job unless there is growth potential with each step. Holding down a job shows retailers and financiers that you are dependable in terms of generating income, and establishing and savings and checking account tells them that you are seriously about handling your budget. Use your checking budget to keep your bills paid on time, and seed some of what is left into an interest-bearing savings account and watch the money grow. Be vigilant during bill paying time, use a ledger if necessary to keep track of when rent, water, and gas are due. Don't become too dependant upon grace periods, particularly if you need to mail bills. Even the smallest delay with the mail service can result in a smudge on your credit record.

Investments with trustworthy people

There are times you may be called to contribute money towards a large purchase or investment. Whether you are asked to help pay off a car, or share rent, it is necessary to be aware of your responsibilities. Sharing credit responsibilities with a trustworthy person, or "piggybacking" on somebody else's credit, can work to your advantage if that person has established credit. However, such ventures can also hurt you if the other person or persons consistently default on payments and leave you holding the bag.

If ever you are called to help with a large sum of money, like car payments, rent, or a business loan, read all paperwork involved and know your responsibilities. If anything looks shady to you, it is best to avoid signing. Deal with people you know and trust - piggybacking on parents' credit is a good way to establish your own.

In Part II we will examine other ways to establish good credit for a prosperous future.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.getapcloan.com/2006/11/establish-good-credit-for-good.html' title='Establish Good Credit for a Good Financial Future, Pt. Deployment only adds another element of uncertainty we don't want to consider. Recent years have seen thousands of our soldiers deployed to other parts of the world, missing Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas presents. Yet, while they work in a job that offers little opportunity for holiday vacations, we are able to remain safe stateside and enjoy the gifts our loved ones in the military give us daily - security and peace of mind.

Nothing warms a soldier's heart more, of course, than to receive a gift from home. Whether it's a letter or a small gift, just the simple act of jotting a note that says "I love you" brings a piece of family to an otherwise lonely place. Unfortunately, not everybody overseas is as fortunate to get such things from home. So why not strive to show appreciation for everyone who fights for us, that we may live in freedom? Why not give back to those who give selflessly for us and our country?

This year, add a soldier or sailor to your holiday gift list. You would be surprised to know how even a small care package will be appreciated by someone stationed in Iraq or elsewhere in the Middle East. In a place where one cannot simple pop over to the corner store for supplies, to receive a package mixed with practical items may be considered a luxury to some now. Just a few items one might want to consider giving include:

Hard candies and gum - Satisfy a soldier's sweet tooth with a bag of peppermints or sour fruit jawbreakers. Chewing gum is not always in easy supply overseas, too, and such items won't take up much room in a package. Avoid sending chocolates or anything else that may melt en route.

Drink mixes - Most fruit-punch and lemonade mixes are available in single serving envelopes. Send a box for a soldier's water bottle, to make a refreshing treat.

Eye drops, lip balm, travel soaps - Especially if a soldier is stationed in a desert region, days and nights can be uncomfortable. Dry heat and sand irritate the eyes and chap the skin, so such items would be greatly appreciated.

Books - Occasionally, there is downtime, yet little to do. Mass market paperbacks - romance and mysteries, thrillers and fiction - are especially prized. If you are interested in just sending books overseas, you can arrange to ship through most booksellers.

Phone cards - Small, inexpensive, and very practical. One card gives the gift of conversation with family for a soldier. Especially on holidays, this is a very thoughtful gift that can bring a soldier closer to home.

Once you have decided what to send, you will need to know where and how to send your care package. Sending a military care package isn't exactly the same as mailing within the country, as there are restrictions with regards to size and content when shipping to any APO/FPO address. A simple search on the Internet for "care packages for soldiers" will yield a wealth of information so that your package will arrive safely to a grateful soldier this holiday season.

Troops held back from overseas duty because of debt

SAN DIEGO - Thousands of U.S. troops are being barred from overseas duty because they are so deep in debt they are considered security risks, according to an Associated Press review of military records.

The number of troops held back has climbed dramatically in the past few years. There is no quick way to repair bad credit. Some of these companies claim they can guarantee to get you a credit card regardless of your credit history. But often times they will take your money and run with the help of loopholes and fine print on a contract.

The best way to improve your score is to set an example of on time bill paying. The reason most credit scores are low is because of late and delinquent bill paying. This can be changed in six months to a year with committed on time bill paying.

Another way is to get a copy of your credit report. There are several companies that offer a free credit report. You should not have to pay a fee to have copy of this report or to have any changes made to it. Often if there are mistakes it is the credit card company that makes them and they should be the ones to fix them.

After you have done the research and found that you may be better off going at it alone, the first task is to get a copy of your credit report. Go through your report with a fine tooth comb looking for any discrepancies. You have the right to dispute any thing that is on your credit report and have it investigated. You may contact the creditors directly to notify them of any known errors and ask them to correct the mistake. Some blemishes can't be removed but you can repair it yourself by living within your budget and paying your bills on time. After establishing a good credit history over a period of time it will make past mistakes more forgivable.

Another way to fix your credit is with a credit counseling company. These companies need to be researched just like a credit repair company. Do not put your faith and money in a company just because they have a catchy slogan or a cute commercial. When it comes to your money and credit it is important to stay on your toes. A reputable credit counseling company can act as a mediator with your creditors to lower or eliminate high interest rates while you pay off your outstanding balance. They usually require that you cancel your open accounts and pay them off before getting a new credit card. They can be a consolidator of your debt by allowing you to make a monthly payment directly to them and they will in turn make your monthly payments.

Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Florida. Driving along I-64 to Virginia Beach, or down route 13 from Maryland, it is not uncommon to see large ships creeping slowly across the Bay. Visitors get a grand view of Naval Station Norfolk before the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, and Oceanfront Virginia Beach visitors can see the lighthouse of Fort Story on the way to a day of fun.

For visiting and residing military, the Hampton Roads area offers numerous other opportunities aside from fun in the sun. While a popular destination for living and enjoying vacations, the seven cities also comprise one of the more costly areas in Virginia to live. People attached to Naval Station Norfolk, NAS Oceana, and other military insitutions in Hampton Roads may find that monthly budgets can be rather tight. Once the bills are paid, is there anything left for fun?

It's possible, if one knows where to go to take advantage of military discounts.

Many local and regional businesses are very military friendly when it comes to offering discounts on goods and services. It is a small token of appreciation for the people who serve and protect us on a daily basis, but during months when there's a financial pinch, a good discount can help make the weekend a bit happier for the whole family.

Entertainment

In the mood for a good laugh? Sweet Caroline's Comedy Club of Virginia Beach offers discounts to military personnel. Also, be sure to check area concert venues like the Virginia Beach Amphitheatre and the Constant Center. On occasion, military discounts are available for big name shows.

Connectivity

Need a place to surf the Internet, play games, and hang out with other gamers? Try the WebCity Cybercafe of Virginia Beach, where all military get a 10% discount on rentals and food.

Health and Beauty

Sometimes after a long day of work, you just need to relax and be pampered. In Norfolk, L'Etoile Nail & Day Spa offers special prices on services for the military, while at Ambiance Day Spa in Virginia Beach every Friday is Military Appreciation Day with 10% all services.

History

Education can be fun, too! Gregory said she aimed the site at today's military family.
"I saw that this is an audience that is online a lot. I saw that there were a lot of resources that weren't available to them, and I wanted to do more than just recruitment advertising," she said. "All the databases are free for their use. ... We're not really selling anything."

The site contains several useful features to support the military's unique needs, Gregory said. Links to hospitals, schools, news, state tax boards, yellow pages, a military pay calculator and a "virtual mall," she hopes, will help military families make smoother transitions between duty stations. The site also provides options for help on resumes and advice for what to do at a job interview.

Coupon providers have space on the site, as well, with links to places where families can print out the coupons they need and take them to their local commissaries and exchanges, she said.

The site's home page prominently displays the banner for "America Supports You," a Defense Department program aimed at facilitating grassroots and corporate support of American troops and their families. Gregory said she has been working with several America Supports You member organizations (including CinCHouse, Operation Homefront, Fisher House and Toys for Tots), sharing expertise on how best to serve the military community.

"We talked to military family groups, and this is what they told us they wanted," Gregory said. "Military (families) move a lot, and we've learned so much in working with these organizations. ... When you look at somebody's resume and they've moved a lot, some people don't understand that it wasn't a choice and that they're outstanding candidates."

Gregory said her earlier career placing military people in civilian jobs showed her some big changes in the job market's attitude over the past decade.

"It has gone full circle now," she said. "When I started out in executive search, corporate America wasn't so in tune with how excellent military candidates are. I think today, they're cognizant of it."

Beyond a simple source of advice, Gregory said she hopes her site will become a hub for job seekers looking for companies, and vice versa. In its "virtual job fair," the site contains links to defense contractors, law enforcement agencies, health care companies and others.

Gregory and her group are working on a section featuring restaurant chains, retail chains and insurance companies.

MilitaryConnection.com makes money by selling ads to companies who seek a military audience, many of whom are looking to hire ex-servicemembers. Some of those companies pay to be part of the "featured jobs" section so military members can have access to companies looking specifically for them.

"We're not charging a placement fee or anything like that," she said. "What we're trying to do is put these ads in front of them and connect them."

Gregory said she also hopes to connect the companies that sponsor her site with charities that help servicemembers. She said she provides incentives to help that process along, offering discounts to the sponsors and giving them an opportunity to donate directly to the military-friendly charities featured on her site.

"We can't make them give (the discount) to the charity, but we certainly encourage them, and we put the charities front and center on the site," she said. "If we're a company that works with military, we should be supporting military. And maybe we can lead by example so that our clients might become involved."

The site offers companies the direct donation opportunity for two reasons, Gregory said. She wants no one to doubt whether their money goes where they want it to go, and she sees the value in providing a direct relationship between people supporting the troops, allowing them to interact however they see fit.

"If they wanted to give more, it facilitates that, rather than us being involved in the middle," she said. "That's not our business."

While there is much more to add, already keeping the site on the cutting edge has proven "a challenge," Gregory said, but she believes in her mission wholeheartedly.

"It's a win-win. It's a win for the corporations that advertise because the military candidates are wonderful ... and it's a win-win for the military audience," she said. And it's a win for the charities. If every time we generate income and a little bit can go to them, that's great."

Source: LIFELines

Financing 101

Affordable financing for the military. Apply today!

As you browse our website to learn more about how you can finance a new desktop or laptop PC, some questions may arise if you aren't familiar with how financing works. Is it like paying for a computer with a credit card? Similar, yes, but in this case you are applying for the credit needed to take home one particular item, rather than a card that lets you buy multiple items. Is it like buying a house with a mortgage? Again, yes, only where you may need to offer a down payment on a home, The Computer Connection will let you finance the computer you want for no money down.

Financing is defined as a means of obtaining the resources to purchase an item, then paying back the loan in a set time period for a set monthly or weekly fee. In most cases, people turn to financing when buying a house, a boat, or a car, but there are instances when financing may be needed to purchase other necessities. For example, furniture stores may offer financing plans to people who wish to purchase entire room sets, and yes, there are business that sell computers and accessories with similar plans.

You may be asking yourself now, why not just buy a computer on a credit card? While a convenient method for some, it isn't for everybody. With interest rates as they are, the price of a purchased item on credit will fluctuate as the rate on the card increases - a person will definitely end up paying more than what the item is worth. Also, consider the fact that not everybody will qualify for certain credit cards and rates. You may receive numerous mailings proclaiming that you are prequalified for this or that card, but it is still possible to be turned down for credit, and missed payments on present cards will show up in your credit score. So when you do try to buy a house or a boat and alarms ring when your credit history is brought up, you know you're in trouble!

So how then, you wonder, can one qualify for financing with a smaller business? Smaller businesses take various factors into consideration, of course, as you apply for a loan through them. Most importantly, they look at employment status - do you generate a regular enough income to be able to make monthly payments? If you are in the military, you may find it easier to apply to credit on the basis of your employment. That you are taking in a steady wage from the government tells a business owner that you are good for the money you will need to pay back, and from there a reasonable payment plan can be made so you can enjoy your PC now and pay as time passes. With some businesses, your paystub could be the ticket to owning a nice computer.

This blog will serve to inform interested readers about financing, living on a budget, and other news of interest to military. The Computer Connection is proud to offer low financing plans to military personnel looking to buy PC desktops and laptops, and we assist civilian government workers and others as well. You don't have to be on a Special Ops team or parachuting out of planes over Iraq to qualify for a payment plan on a desktop or laptop. If you're anywhere from E-1 (Private) to O-9 (Lieutenant General), fill out an online application, and as soon as it's processed and reviewed you'll receive a contract.

Once you've reviewed the terms and rates of the agreement, just send it back through the mail--most companies need signed hard copies of the contract--and within a few days your computer will be on its way to your door. There's no long, drawn-out approval process, no letters of recommendation, and no attorneys, all of which means no headaches for you. All of these factors make military computer financing a superior choice--certainly much better than leafing through countless catalogs looking at models and accessories you can't buy.

This Is Too Good To Be True!
If you've just read that you can purchase a computer based on your military status alone and think this sounds suspicious, consider this as well: you're not buying a reconfigured or outdated machine. Military computer financing lets you own a brand new computer with all the peripherals, including mice, printers, and drives, for no money down. If that sounds even more dubious than before, never fear, there's a perfectly good explanation for everything.

Men and women in the armed forces don't simply receive a free pass in the credit world. While there are military mortgages, phone calling plans, and other discounts out there, none of these things will compensate for a truly horrid credit history. It would be great if banks and other lending institutions cut us all breaks for the various sacrifices we've made in our lives, but then most lenders would be out of business. So how does military computer financing work?

The Secret to Military Computer Financing
When you fill out your online forms, you're still just applying for a loan the way thousands of "civilian" Americans do each day. The difference is, in some cases lenders are willing to take a gamble by offering low interest rates to those who've served (or are serving) their country. The rationale for this can change from lender to lender, but there are a few reasons some companies are willing to do this.

One is that their business model is scalable. Even if computer financing companies only make one- or two-percent interest on their loans, if enough borrowers come to them, the sheer volume is enough to offset the low return. Another reason for this seemingly unsound business strategy is the "loss leader" principle. This is the (proven) idea that a long-term gain justifies a short-term loss. In other words, if a computer company knows a buyer will come back for a full-price computer once his or her credit is strong, it's worth luring that customer in now and establishing a relationship.

Nobler Reasons for Military Computer Financing
Not all business decisions are made solely on a bottom-line basis. Some companies are just proud of the job their country's young men and women are doing both here and abroad and want to reward their bravery. This is arguably the most dangerous time in our country's (and world's) history to join the armed forces. Even reserves now stand a decent chance of being called up and shipped out to fight. Military loans are just a small way for some businesses to show their gratitude.
